Nebraska becomes first state to sue Change Healthcare over data breach

Nebraska is suing Change Healthcare and UnitedHealth Group over a February data breach that affected 100 million Americans and 575,000 local residents. The state’s Attorney General claims the firms were negligent and delayed notifying those impacted, increasing identity theft and fraud risk. The breach occurred due to inadequate server protection, enabling hackers to install ransomware, disrupt medical claim reimbursements, and sell stolen personal data on the dark web.
