Scientists at the Centre for Genomic Regulation in Barcelona have discovered that cancers create unique molecular “fingerprints” that can be detected in the early stages of the disease. The team used rRNA from many different tissues to identify unique patterns of rRNA changes in cancer, a technique they hope will result in a non-invasive diagnostic test for cancer detection. The study was published in the journal Molecular Cell.
