NHS alert over ‘shocking’ rise in strokes in middle age

The NHS has warned of a 55% rise in strokes among people in their 50s over the past 20 years, a trend attributed to obesity, poor diet and sedentary lifestyles. The rate is increasing faster in this age group than any other. An increase in strokes among those of working age is also feared to be negatively impacting the economy. Health Secretary Wes Streeting said stroke causes including high blood pressure and poor diet are largely preventable.
