The Linux platform is increasingly being targeted by cyber-criminals, with a new malware named “Bootkitty” discovered recently. Bootkitty, which is not fully developed yet, is the first UEFI bootkit for Linux found by researchers. Although it only works against specific Ubuntu distributions, it can theoretically boot the Linux kernel seamlessly and take total control of the operating system. Malware like this typically targets Windows systems, however, Linux platforms are becoming a more attractive target.
