Jerico Pictures, the parent company of background check provider National Public Data, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The firm had been under investigation and subject to several class action suits after a late 2023 data breach saw personal data sold on the dark web, with an estimated 899 million unique social security numbers leaked. The bankruptcy filing has named almost all 50 US state attorneys general, Guam, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, the Virgin Islands, the North Mariana Islands and the District of Columbia among its 90 creditors. The company is now reportedly facing “hundreds of millions” in potential liabilities.
