One Down, Many to Go with Pre-Installed Malware on Android

Compromised Dragon Touch children’s tablets have triggered debates over who is responsible for pre-installed malware and how to address this risk. Regulators, manufacturers, distributors, and resellers should ensure device safety, but cyber trust marks and other consumer information tools play a crucial role too. Solutions like Google’s Android Binary Transparency and Software Bill of Materials could better detect compromised firmware and vulnerabilities, aiming to create a secure market even for low budget devices. However, these solutions currently remain underutilized.
