Canadian privacy regulators publish details of medical testing company’s data breach

LifeLabs, Canada’s largest provider of general health and specialty laboratory testing services, was found to have “failed to take reasonable steps” to protect client data during a 2019 hack that exposed the health data of millions. A now-public report reveals that the company did not properly staff its security team or have effective security measures in place, in addition to collecting more personal information than necessary. LifeLabs has since addressed these issues.
