Chinese state-backed operation Salt Typhoon is targeting Southeast Asian telecoms and government bodies in a prolonged cyberespionage drive, using a new modular backdoor (GhostSpider) and the Demodex rootkit. Network access is achieved through exploiting multiple VPN and firewall systems, following which backdoors are deployed.
