Medical devices can serve as an entry point for data breaches, with the FBI reporting 53% of devices had a known critical vulnerability in 2022. To prevent such breaches, manufacturers must consider cybersecurity from the outset while maintaining continual oversight, such as by using the FDA’s software bill of materials (SBOM). Collaborative efforts between healthcare providers, device manufacturers, and technology developers can jointly improve device security and lower data breach risks.
