Malware linked to Salt Typhoon used to hack telcos around the world

Security vendor Trend Micro has called Chinese hacking group Salt Typhoon, which reportedly attacked several US telecoms firms, one of “the most aggressive Chinese advanced persistent threat (APT) groups”. Trend Micro has identified malware used by the group, tracked as “Earth Estries” and also known as GhostEmperor and UNC2286, in breaches affecting firms and government bodies globally.
