The cybersecurity skills gap contributed to a $1.76 million increase in average breach costs

A shortage in cybersecurity professionals is increasing the cost of data breaches, according to reports by IBM. More than half of breached organisations experienced severe security staffing issues, a rise of 26.2% from the previous year. Insufficiently staffed security teams faced an average breach cost of $4.56 million. The adoption of new technologies and the resultant widening of the skills gap have exacerbated the situation. The reports recommend employing managed security services, providing employee training, and leveraging AI and automation to mitigate the issue.
