Understanding new NY hospital cybersecurity regulations

New York State’s hospital cybersecurity regulations that require general hospitals to report cybersecurity incidents to the New York State Department of Health within 72 hours of discovery came into effect on Oct. 2, 2024. The regulations, which also mandate the implementation of specific cybersecurity best practices, apply solely to general hospitals, not other types of healthcare facilities. Hospitals have until Oct. 2025 to comply with the rest of the requirements.
