Data breaches increased by 34.5% in 2023, compromising over 17 billion records according to Flashpoint’s 2024 Global Threat Report. The US had 60% of all global breaches, a 19.8% rise from 2022. Overall, ransomware and unauthorized access accounted for 85% of public breaches. The report also revealed a significant increase in vulnerability disclosures in 2023 and found that firms relying solely on Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) are likely unaware of almost one third of known vulnerability risk.
