National Public Data (NPD), a Florida-based business under Jerico Pictures, filed for bankruptcy after admitting to one of the largest information leaks affecting “hundreds of millions” of people. NPD was hacked when data on about 2.9bn individuals, which was being sold online for $3.5m, confirmed it had been compromised in December 2023. The data included name, email address, phone number, social security number, and addresses. Investigations, lawsuits, claims for credit monitoring, regulatory consequences, and liabilities have led to the bankruptcy.
