Internet Archive reels from ‘catastrophic’ cyberattack, data breach

The Internet Archive, an online repository of web pages, went offline after enduring a major cyberattack that exposed user data and defaced the site. The San Francisco-based nonprofit confirmed the attack, claimed by a pro-Palestinian “hacktivist” group. The archive’s founder, Brewster Kahle, reported a series of DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) attacks since Tuesday and said efforts were underway to upgrade security. It also led to the breach of usernames, emails and passwords. A hacker group called SN_BLACKMETA claimed responsibility for the attack. While services are quickly being restored, 31 million accounts were reportedly breached.
