Linux systems are being hit by a wide-ranging and dangerous new malware

The new malware, Perfctl, is targeting Linux systems as a cryptocurrency miner, proxy, and loader. Cybersecurity researchers from Aqua Security detected the malware, which has infected thousands of Linux endpoints since 2021 through exploitation of system misconfigurations and vulnerability CVE-2023-33426. Once deployed, Perfctl hides within devices and uses them for cryptocurrency mining, traffic anonymisation, and deploying other programs. The operators behind the malware and their goals remain unknown.
