‘Two-factor authentication may have stopped Synnovis cyber attack’

The cyber attack on pathology provider Synnovis could have been prevented by two-factor authentication, according to Beverley Bryant, strategic advisor at NHS England. Bryant stated that two-factor authentication is the biggest deterrent against cyber attacks and should be more widely implemented in the healthcare sector. She also suggested that hospital boards should prepare for potential cyber attacks by planning for possible disruptions of three to six months.
