Democrats spend big in Maryland as Hogan keeps race close

The senate race in Maryland is proving tougher than Democrats hoped, as surveys show Angela Alsobrooks (D) and former governor Larry Hogan (R) level pegging. Democrats have outspent Republicans by nearly 6 to 1 to try and lock the deep-blue state down, but Hogan remains popular and the race is expected to run right up until November. Critics say Alsobrooks isn’t well enough defined; she also faces challenges from Hogan’s stance on abortion rights.
