WHO authorizes mpox vaccine, which should ease global access

The World Health Organization (WHO) has authorised the use of Bavarian Nordic’s mpox vaccine, marking an important step in countering the global health emergency declared in August due to a surge in cases. This decision can help expedite regulatory approvals, especially beneficial for countries affected by outbreaks like DR Congo which has over 5,000 confirmed cases. The vaccine, revealed to be 76% effective with one dose and 82% with two, would also serve off-label uses.
