Pharmacy deserts disproportionately affect vulnerable communities across the U.S.

Almost half of US counties have at least one “pharmacy desert”, where there is no retail pharmacy within a 10-mile radius, according to a study by The Ohio State University. It found that counties with high social vulnerability and fewer primary care providers had higher rates of pharmacy deserts, leading to difficulties in accessing medications and healthcare services, particularly for patients with chronic conditions.
