Hardware Backdoor Discovered in RFID Cards Used in Hotels and Offices Worldwide

A hardware backdoor has been found in MIFARE Classic contactless cards, allowing unauthorized access to hotel rooms and office doors. The FM11RF08S model, released by Shanghai Fudan Microelectronics, is particularly vulnerable. An optimized version of the attack could speed up the process of cracking a key by five to six times. Similar backdoors were found in previous models dating to 2007. The cards are commonly used in hotels across the U.S., Europe, and India.
