Iranian Threat Group Drops New Backdoor, ‘BugSleep’

Iranian cyber-espionage group MuddyWater is shifting from using legitimate remote-management software to a custom-made backdoor implant in its hacking efforts, says security-operations provider Sekoia. The MuddyWater group, part of the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and Security, has been a significant cyber threat in the Middle East since 2018. This switch in tactic is likely due to increased monitoring of remote-management tools by security vendors.
