Cybersecurity firm KnowBe4 released its International Healthcare Report, showing continued cybercrime risk for the healthcare sector. The report reveals that hospitals worldwide – and particularly in Africa – are targeted due to patient data access and weak security measures. The study also noted that phishing tactics initiate 79% to 91% attacks in the healthcare industry. Additionally, the healthcare sector is the most costly for cyberattacks, with breaches averaging nearly $11 million. Despite avoiding a major attack since 2020, South Africa’s healthcare sector is at risk due to rising attacks in other industries.
