Quantum computers capable of breaking most forms of modern encryption, or Q-Day, are fast approaching, posing new cybersecurity threats. Recent developments in quantum systems suggest this could happen sooner than anticipated. In addition, “Harvest Now, Decrypt Later” campaigns are stealing encrypted data to decrypt later. Engaging post-quantum cryptography (PQC) is a way to combat these threats. The adoption of PQC needs prioritization of cryptographic systems and quantum-resilient algorithms to protect the most secure data systems while managing the challenges of new technology.
