Change Healthcare cyberattack having ‘far-reaching’ effects on providers

Change Healthcare, a UnitedHealth-owned technology company, has been hit by a cyberattack from ransomware group AlphV, aka BlackCat, which has disrupted operations for over a week. The company which offers services including payment and billing to the healthcare sector, processes 15 billion transactions annually and touches one in three patient records. Impacts of the attack include disrupted revenue management services, delayed prescription processes, and difficulties in checking insurance eligibility. The affair further highlights the rise of cybersecurity threats to the healthcare sector.
