AHA, MGMA say provider penalties in info blocking final rule are ‘excessive’

Healthcare providers such as the American Hospital Association (AHA) and the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) have criticized the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) new rules on information blocking disincentives. They argue the penalties could negatively affect practices, accountable care organisations and Medicare patients, and are concerned about the complexity of the exceptions to the rules. The rules outline penalties of zero points in the Promoting Interoperability category, putting revenue at risk, with civil penalties of up to $1m per violation.
