Over 170,000 people have travelled out of their states to access abortions since January 2023, with out-of-state procedures making up more than 15% of the 1 million abortions provided, says the Guttmacher Institute. This shift is attributed to stricter abortion laws in 14 states and four states with near-total bans on abortion. Two-thirds of the abortions were reportedly medication-induced, a method recently protected against federal restrictions by the Supreme Court ruling.
