Microsoft has revealed a comprehensive framework, ZTDNS (zero trust DNS), to counter security risks related to the translation of numerical IP addresses to human-readable domain names. ZTDNS will integrate the Windows DNS engine with the Windows Filtering Platform, offering encrypted and authenticated connections between clients and DNS servers. Furthermore, it will enable administrators to restrict the domains the servers will resolve. Microsoft’s DNS servers will thereafter deny resolutions to all domains aside from those mentioned in allow lists.
