Cyber attackers are testing their latest ransomware on businesses in Africa, Asia, and South America before hitting targets in richer regions. Cybersecurity firm Performanta’s report reveals that hackers are infiltrating systems in the developing world as a “practice run” before attacking higher-value targets in North America and Europe. Cyber attacks worldwide have nearly doubled since the COVID-19 pandemic began, and losses incurred have reached almost $28 billion since 2020, according to the IMF.
