Scientists at UNC Chapel Hill have developed synthetic cells with programmable cytoskeletons that can alter their shape and respond to their environment, according to an article in Nature Chemistry. The team used a peptide-DNA nanotechnology approach to create cells that could live in hostile environments, and suggest the technology could open up new opportunities in biotechnology and medicine.
