Contractors for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) limited access to crucial tests for transplant patients against the recommendations of expert physicians, according to a report by the Health Equity in Transplantation Coalition (HEiTC). The cuts reduce access to non-invasive blood tests for detecting early signs of organ rejection, a move which disproportionately impacts Black and Brown transplant recipients. CMS will decide in the coming weeks whether these cutbacks will be permanent.
