Proofpoint reported a Microsoft Azure data breach, with breaches compromising many accounts including those of executives. The technique used involved credential phishing and cloud account takeovers. The cyber-attack is suspected to be financially motivated, for data theft and fraud purposes. Proofpoint has not attributed this to any particular threat agent but suspects Russian and/or Nigerian origins.
