Wildfire smoke is severely affecting indoor air quality in long-term care facilities across the US, putting seniors with respiratory or cardiac diseases at significant risk. Environmental toxicologist Luke Montrose installed monitors in several facilities which showed that up to 100% of particulate matter outside seeped in. As a response to the concerning data, facilities have reportedly commenced preventive practices including checking filter systems and sealing doors and windows before the fire season.
