Project to eliminate parasitic disease in remote communities

Australian researchers have been given a $5m grant to combat strongyloidiasis, a preventable and treatable disease caused by certain roundworms that can lead to potentially fatal conditions. The project will focus on Indigenous Australians and aims to tackle the issues causing the high rate of the disease, including sanitation and unclean water. The scheme is expected to have wider implications for tackling global endemic diseases.
