The healthcare sector experienced more cyber security breaches than any other sector with 241 attacks recorded in 2021, according to research by Omdia. These attacks mainly involved data hacking, supply chain breaches, phishing and ransomware demands. The issue is compounded by the prevalence of old healthcare IT systems that are not up-to-date with technological advancements. Governments have begun establishing minimum cyber security standards for hospitals and providing funding to improve security, while experts recommend the adoption of international cyber security standards.
