Cyberattacks affected tens of millions of Americans in 2023, with close to 541 breaches reported. Larger and more damaging breaches were perpetrated by ransomware groups targeting private health information of patients. Notably, the United States’ biggest health system, HCA Healthcare, was compromised in July, affecting around 11 million individuals. Other companies, like Perry Johnson & Associates, Managed Care of North America, and Welltok also suffered massive breaches. It is anticipated that additional breaches from 2023 are likely to be reported in future.
