Boosting protein stability and resilience with interlocking rings

Scientists from Peking University have successfully designed and synthesized a single-domain protein catenane, an extremely rare compact, integrated structure consisting of two interlocked polypeptide rings. The modified protein showed better thermal resilience and enhanced anti-aggregation properties, paving the way for a new class of protein molecules with potential applications in industrial enzymes, antibodies, cytokines, and biomaterials.
