Nearly half of women report experiencing problems with sexual function, including low desire, lack of arousal, difficulty having an orgasm or experiencing pain during sex. However, education about sexual health issues, including the difference between spontaneous and responsive desire and understanding the natural shifts in libido during the lifespan, could alleviate some of these issues. Other potential causes could be physical, such as certain medications or during pregnancy, post-partum and menopause, or emotional, such as stress, depression or past sexual trauma.
