Cybercriminals are increasingly breaching the cybersecurity protocols of U.S. schools, with reports tripling since 2018 as the education system becomes more reliant on digital resources. IBM defines a data breach as an instance in which a hacker gains unauthorized access to sensitive data such as social security numbers, bank details and other confidential information. Cybersecurity attacks and data breaches cost average of $4.45m per incident, according to the 2023 Cost of a Data Breach Report.
