Illinois is set to bolster oversight of healthcare facility mergers and acquisitions from 1 January via the recently signed HB 2222 bill. The legislation requires facilities to inform Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul within 30 days of any proposed changes, with non-compliance resulting in potential penalties of nearly $500 per day. The bill will enable the formation of a state-level premerger notification programme and increased scrutiny of potentially anti-competitive behaviour.
