FjordPhantom, a new Android malware, has been discovered by security researchers. Noticed in Southeast Asia, it uses both app-based tactics and social engineering to target banking customers. The malware is primarily spread through email, SMS, and messaging apps, and works by prompting users to download a fake banking app. Once installed, it employs open source code from GitHub to break the Android sandbox and allow apps to access each other’s files and memory.
