In late October, TransForm Shared Service Organization, a non-profit IT service provider for Ontario hospitals, suffered a ransomware attack affecting 267,000 patients. The DAIXIN Team, a hacker group, claimed responsibility, having stolen a database documenting 5.6 million patient visits.
The breach led to significant disruptions, with appointments rescheduled and some services redirected. Bluewater Health was most impacted, though no clinical records were compromised. Other hospitals, such as Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and Erie Shores HealthCare, had employee data exposed. TransForm has declined to pay the ransom and is actively investigating the breach, promising to keep stakeholders updated as they assess the full extent of the incident.
