Many antibiotics recommended by the World Health Organisation to treat common childhood infections were found to be less than 50% effective due to high rates of bacterial resistance, according to a study led by the University of Sydney. The areas most impacted are South-East Asia and the Pacific, where many unnecessary deaths in children resulting from antibiotic resistance occur each year.
