Despite significant security investments, data breaches continue to escalate in cost, especially in healthcare – the sector with the highest costs and largest increase. Average data breach costs reached a record high of $4.45 million in 2023, up almost $600,000 in three years. The Middle East and the U.S. saw the biggest regional cost increases, while data breach costs in sectors like education and energy have decreased.
