The Queensland government intends to legislate a compulsory scheme requiring authorities to notify individuals of any significant data breaches, following a recommendation made in the Coaldrake review about a year ago. The legislation will also seek to harmonise Queensland privacy principles with Australian privacy principles to allow for consistent legislation in response to the central government’s review of the nation’s Privacy Act.
