CloudNordic and AzeroCloud, Danish hosting subsidiaries, suffered a severe ransomware attack in August 2023, resulting in complete encryption wipe-out and loss of all customer data. Even though both companies had backup and data protection systems in place, these were not sufficient. The incident highlights the limitations of traditional backup systems in responding to ransomware attacks and underscores the need for rapid detection, response, and robust cyber recovery and disaster recovery systems.
