Sellafield local authority unsure if data was stolen six years on from North Korea ransomware attack

UK councils Copeland and Cumberland hold sensitive data about Sellafield, Europe’s largest nuclear site, but still do not know what information was lost during a WannaCry ransomware attack in 2017, Computer Weekly reports. A source at the council said the attack, which cost an estimated £2m ($2.6m), could have compromised extensive operational data, including waste management and planning information, as well as details provided by contractors to Sellafield. Cybersecurity failings at the council played a key role in failing to submit audited accounts for 2017.
