UK councils Copeland and Cumberland hold sensitive data about Sellafield, Europe’s largest nuclear site, but still do not know what information was lost during a WannaCry ransomware attack in 2017, Computer Weekly reports. A source at the council said the attack, which cost an estimated £2m ($2.6m), could have compromised extensive operational data, including waste management and planning information, as well as details provided by contractors to Sellafield. Cybersecurity failings at the council played a key role in failing to submit audited accounts for 2017.
