Tens of thousands of Android devices have been shipped with backdoored firmware as part of a cybercriminal operation called BadBox, according to Human Security. The devices allow threat actors to carry out ad-fraud schemes, create WhatsApp and Gmail accounts for malicious use, and can even remotely install new apps or code without permission.
