NIST releases first-ever mobile device security guidelines

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has released a draft handbook with guidelines for securing medical data on mobile devices. The handbook includes best practices and tools for bolstering mobile security, as well as information on NIST standards and regulations to adhere to. NIST officials hope that the guide will help healthcare organizations protect patient information and reduce the risk of breaches. The handbook also includes a section on risk assessment and outcomes based on the business workflow of an electronic health record user.
