2023 US National Cybersecurity Strategy’s impact on Healthcare

Managed services are commonly used by healthcare providers to outsource the management of their IT infrastructure, including data storage, network security, and software applications. The National Cybersecurity Strategy emphasizes the importance of cybersecurity and the need for collaboration between the public and private sectors to ensure a secure and reliable digital ecosystem.

For healthcare providers that use managed services, this means that they need to ensure that their managed service providers (MSPs) are taking appropriate cybersecurity measures to protect patient data and sensitive information. MSPs must have adequate security controls and protocols in place to prevent unauthorized access, data breaches, and cyberattacks. Healthcare providers should also work closely with their MSPs to establish and enforce cybersecurity policies and procedures that meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.

The comprehensive approach to cybersecurity outlined in the National Cybersecurity Strategy may also lead to new regulations and compliance requirements for healthcare providers and their MSPs. Healthcare providers that use managed services must be prepared to comply with any new regulations and standards that are introduced to ensure cybersecurity and protect patient data.
